Trauma Therapy
NeuroNarrative Reprocessing Therapy (NNRT)
We are proud to offer NeuroNarrative Reprocessing Therapy (NNRT) a trauma-focused modality developed by Reta Whalen, LCSW.
NNRT is a structured and supportive trauma therapy that works with both your experiences and your nervous system. Rather than only discussing what happened, it helps the brain and body process those experiences differently so they no longer carry the same emotional or physical intensity.
During sessions, you remain aware and supported throughout the process. The work is carefully paced to help you stay regulated while difficult material is addressed in a way that feels safe and manageable.

How NNRT Is Different
NNRT integrates:
-
Narrative activation (working with your story in a structured way)
-
Nervous system regulation and body awareness
-
Bilateral stimulation (Gentle left right stimulation)
-
Ongoing relational co-regulation with your therapist
This integration allows the memory network to update instead of simply replaying.

What Trauma Therapy Can Help With
NNRT may be helpful if you experience:
-
Intrusive memories or emotional flooding
-
Chronic anxiety or hypervigilance
-
Emotional numbness or shutdown
-
Somatic symptoms connected to past events
-
Persistent shame or negative self-beliefs
-
Triggers that feel disproportionate to the present situation
You do not need to have a specific diagnosis to benefit from trauma therapy. If your body reacts as if something is still happening—even when you know you are safe—trauma-focused therapy may help.

Our Approach
NNRT trauma therapy is:
-
Gentle but effective
-
Structured yet flexible
-
Grounded in nervous system science
-
Focused on safety and pacing
-
Centered on your autonomy and readiness
Healing does not require re-experiencing every painful detail. It requires safety, thoughtful pacing, and the right conditions for the brain and body to release what no longer needs to be carried.
If you are wondering whether NNRT is right for you, we would be honored to talk with you about your goals and help you determine the best next step.

Trauma Therapy Investment
NeuroNarrative Reprocessing Therapy (NNRT) sessions are offered in structured time blocks to support safe, thorough, and well-paced processing. Session length is determined collaboratively based on readiness and treatment goals. The number and length of sessions will be determined in your first session with your therapist.
Due to insurance requirements and coverage limitations, these sessions are not eligible for insurance reimbursement and are only offered on a private-pay basis. Session fees are based on the time reserved for you, and the full reserved time is billed regardless of the portion utilized.

60-Minute Session – $200
This session may include assessment for readiness, preparation for intensive work, integration following reprocessing, or ongoing treatment planning.

90-Minute Reprocessing Session – $300
Designed for initial trauma reprocessing, introduction to the NNRT modality, or extended preparation and processing sessions.

2–3 Hour Trauma Intensive – $550
Extended, uninterrupted reprocessing time designed for deeper trauma work within a carefully paced and supported clinical container.
When time is reserved, that time is held exclusively for you. This structure protects pacing, nervous system safety, and the integrity of the reprocessing process.

What Most Trauma Treatment Plans Look Like
While every client’s needs are unique, most individuals engaging in NNRT trauma therapy typically complete:

-
1–3 preparation sessions (60–90 minutes)
-
1–2 trauma intensive sessions (approximately 2.5 hours each)
-
1–3 follow-up or integration sessions (60–90 minutes)

This phased approach allows for nervous system stabilization, focused reprocessing, and thoughtful integration of new learning and relief.

When extended time is scheduled, that full block is reserved exclusively for you and the therapist’s calendar is held for that duration, even if the session concludes earlier.

If you are traveling from out of town for treatment, it is possible to complete the full series of sessions within one week, and we have seen this format be effective for many clients.

What to Expect
• All NNRT sessions are offered in person
• Sessions are scheduled in extended time blocks to support safe processing
• These sessions are private pay and not billed to insurance
• Treatment begins with an assessment to determine readiness

If you are unsure which format is appropriate, we will discuss options together and determine what best supports your goals.
